Holy Trinity church in the village of Chausovo, Kaluga oblast: landscaping, roof reconstruction and facade decoration

The Holy Trinity church is located in the village of Chausovo, Kaluga oblast. The existing temple was built on the site of the lost one. From the previous church a dilapidated foundation remained, it is located on a site under a layer of soil. This brick church represents the traditional Russian style architecture of the 18-19th centuries.

This project includes the improvement of the territory with new facilities. There will also be the reconstruction of the bell tower and the decoration of the church facade.

The site consists of several areas: a public area with the church itself, a non-public area and a playground. The main area of the site is open to the public. In front of the temple, an entrance group is designed. This is a brick arch with gates, lined with stone or fiber-reinforced concrete with carved icons and ornaments. The gates are made of metal. There is a floral ornament with Chi Rho Symbol at the top. The edging is in the form of stylized hollyhocks. Above is a dome with a cross. The fencing of the territory is made in the same style as the entrance group. It consists of pillars lined with stone or fiber-reinforced concrete with decoration. The internal bearing part of the column is a reinforced concrete rod. The span between the pillars on the western (main) side is filled with forged grates. The other sides can be filled with either wooden slats or profiled metal. Through the entrance group one can enter the territory both on foot and by car. There is also an entrance behind the temple, from the side of the apse through the technical gate. The entrance to the non-public area is from the west, from the main street. Apart from these entrances, lesser gates are also designed. Two of them connect the non-public and the public areas. One leads from the street to the playground.

In front of the entrance group there is a platform with an information stand and two benches. Next to the entrance, a place with a memorial cross is beautified. It is highlighted with paving, steps to the cross are arranged. There is a place for four stands with information about the history of the church and the region. A children's playground is adjacent, it is covered with special rubber paving. The flower beds and places for green spaces and benches are designed there.

The plan shows the location of a large gazebo for parishioners. The chapel for consecrating water is also designed. It can become a visual dominant when approaching the temple from the north side.
A separate object of the project is the parish house. On the first level, three steps over the ground level, an open gallery with a large terrace and a canopy is designed. It can be used as a platform for organizing Sunday school performances and other events. Also, the first floor includes a spacious refectory with a kitchen. There are also public bathrooms in a separate block with an entrance from the outside. The second floor is for Sunday school classrooms and an office. There are service bathrooms on both floors. The first floor of the building can be made of blocks or bricks with plaster on the outside. The second floor can be made of glulam. The roof is of gray seam metal.
The non-public area includes the existing house for the priest's family and some extra buildings. There is a garage, amenity facilities, a small gazebo and an area for solid waste containers on the side.

The roof of the narthex, to the right and left of the bell tower, has to be reconstructed. Two new architectural volumes appear. The one on the south side can be used as a full-fledged room. The one on the east can serve as a utility space. Above, the arched openings of the bell tower itself are covered with canopies.
The facades of the church are covered with lime plaster by the method of wattle and daub. Its color is light-milk, almost white. The walls below the zero mark are lined with stone. A separate component of the project are the ceramic tiles decorating the facades. These are horizontal friezes running along the perimeter of the main volume, as well as the tholobate and the bell tower. These are also separate inserts, window framework and tops of entrance portals. On the eastern side, on the apse of the sanctuary, there is a large cross. It is made of carved stone and ceramics with a kokoshnik-shaped metal top.

The existing roof must be changed to the one specified by the project. The more rounded dome and the conch are made. The part between the bell tower and the main volume of the church is covered with a pitched roof. This requires the dismantling of the underroof system.
