PROJECT OF INTERIORS AND FACADE DECORATION FOR SAINT GEORGE CHURCH OF THE KATERLEZ SAINT GEORGE CONVENT

The interior project was developed by the Prohram Studio in collaboration with the design group of the Guild of Temple Builders led by Andrey Anisimov.
The use of natural materials recreates the atmosphere of the ancient Southern cave churches – Crimean, Cappadocian and Georgian.
The architecture of the church is arranged in such a way that the building is literally cut into the rock. Part of the rock enters the interior. In the sanctuary, the synthronon is carved in the rock.
It is also planned to use the rock as a foundation for Golgotha and the Stone of Anointment on the north side. In the eastern part of the temple, a reliquary is to be made in the rock. One large stone was also left in the center of the temple. According to the legend, on this stone, Saint George on horseback was once seen.
The project of the interiors includes open bricks with lime-cement mortar, with carvings and with stone and ceramic inlays.
