Icon-case with ciborium in honor of saints
Cyril and Methodius

This icon-case with a ciborium is designed to be located on the island of Valaam, near the main church, not far from the Singing Field. It is dedicated to Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius. This is due to the memory of Archimandrite Methodius (Petrov) (02/16/1961 - 07/22/2021). This also points to Kirill, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and Archimandrite Methodius were tonsured monks with the names of Saints Cyril and Methodius respectively.

The icon case with the ciborium is designed in the neo-Byzantine style. This corresponds to the architecture of the Transfiguration Cathedral and nearby buildings. This stylistic decision is also dictated by the dedication of the ciborium. It will stand along the walking path leading from the central estate and hotels to the Singing Field.
The height of the ciborium is 6750 mm, or 7740 mm together with a cross. Dimensions of the main volume are 2680 x 2680 mm, or 5150 x 5150 mm with base and steps. The structure is set on the foundation three steps above the ground level at a height of 360 mm (each step is 120 mm). Steps and floor are covered with granite tiles in two colors. The structure is made of a metal frame. It is completely finished with natural stone (limestone and granite decorative inserts).
On four massive carved columns with capitals, the dome is set. It is covered with a lead roofing and crowned with a cross. On the inside, the dome is laid with a mosaic representing a cross in a circle. The pendentives and arches are also covered with mosaics. At the base of the tholobate there is an ornamental mosaic inscription of the Slavonic or Cyrillic alphabet ("Аз Буки Веди Глаголь Добро Есть Живете…"). In the western part there is the icon-case with a mosaic icon of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius. There is also the icon of the Savior on top. Below there is a commemorative plaque and a cross stylized in the form of the Ship of Salvation. On the back side of the icon-case there are stone carvings and mosaic fragments. Above there is a flourishing cross, angels and the Mother of God. Below there is a decorative ornament in a square.
This draft design was made according to the main architectural and construction regulations. It takes into account all the functional, liturgical and symbolic features of the Orthodox sacred architecture.
